Australasian Timber Magazine covers the timber industry from timber coming in from green mills into construction and manufacturing. Covers what’s happening in timber processing and wood products manufacture with a special emphasis on treatments and engineered products.
Australian Forests and Timber Magazine (AFT)
Australian Forests & Timber News covers the timber industry from the getting trees into the ground to the finished product going through the green mills. Published 8 times per year, covers subjects such as plantations and biofuels, and special features on kiln drying, training, chipping and computing.
Each published 8 times per year with an estimated readership of 12,000 people each issue.
While working with the sales and editorial team, I managed all things production; including layout, pagination, advertisement artwork, pre-press, and upload of digital editions to issuu.com. Over 22 editions of the magazine, with the help of the creative team, I developed a style guide that helped keep the magazine consistent across editions and increased the efficiency of the pagination process. Keeping traditional styles such as page headers and a 5 column layout, there was still plenty of room to get the best out of the content provided, while allowing space for standard advertising sizes. Standard templates for page layouts made editorial work easier due to better prediction in article word counts, while allowing for additional features to add variance to the articles visual appeal. Character, Paragraph and Object Styles were added to Indesign with accompanying shortcuts to increase time in flow while paginating and allow for further changes to the system easier to update in the future.
Working alongside the sales staff to communicate with all stakeholders, briefs were from both small and large advertisers from the timber industry. All artwork was successfully produced to specified internal and external standards. Some campaigns were successful enough to extend through multiple issues, and some artwork was also feature internationally through other publications.
